NOCD is educating a record number of people during OCD Awareness Month 2022

Behavioral Health Leader touches more than 3.6 million lives — including consumers, psychologists and psychiatrists, social workers, counselors, and health plans — in extraordinary annual efforts to end the stigma associated with OCD

CHICAGO, Nov. 23–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today NOCDthe leading provider of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) treatment, announced the results of its study second annual OCD Awareness Montha month-long extension of the The annual #OCDWeek of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF).. This year, the company has raised the bar for raising awareness of OCD by massively expanding the number and type of activities on-site and online. NOCD produced a total of 70 events during OCD Awareness Month, reaching, engaging or educating over 3.6 million people.

Each activity is designed to increase understanding of OCD among the public, providers and payers to promote the delivery of effective care that can improve clinical outcomes while reducing the cost of care for those in need. Today, over 180 million people worldwide are affected by obsessive-compulsive disorder. But many do not receive effective therapy due to misdiagnosis, inappropriate treatment, or simply a lack of awareness among therapists, health care plans, and families about new therapeutic approaches (such as ERP therapy) that can bring relief to their patients, members and loved ones.

“This year we have dramatically increased our community investment to raise awareness about OCD significantly louder, and we’ve been honestly amazed and pleased with the results,” said Stephen Smith, Chief Executive Officer of NOCD. “Research shows that it can take 10 years or more for someone affected by OCD to find appropriate treatment. This is unacceptable considering that effective therapies are now as close as the smartphone in your hand. The key to helping people find relief starts with awareness, and we want to reach as many people as possible with the knowledge, resources, and easy access to medical care they need to feel better and to get her life back.”

Among the 70 events produced by NOCD:

Overall, these 70 events reached at least 3.6 million people across the country. All of these resources remain available online via NOCDs online community to help as many people as possible learn how to improve their mental health and well-being and end the stigma associated with OCD.

“This is just the beginning,” said CEO Smith. “We firmly believe that a lack of awareness of OCD is the root cause of inappropriate health behaviors. Too many people don’t understand. We will continue to lead and invest in raising awareness of OCD. We are already planning next year’s activities and have exciting ideas on the table for how to reach more people dealing with OCD. Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s event a success including Howie Mandel, our partners at NAMI and the IOCDFthe 300+ specialized OCD therapists in our nationwide provider network, there are almost 300,000 members of our online communityand the 30+ insurance plans covering NOCD therapyincluding Aetna, Cigna, Humana, UnitedHealthcare, many Blue Cross Blue Shield plans.”
