Five reasons why winter cycling is ruining your fitness — and how to avoid them

We all know that the winter training period is very important to lay the groundwork for the upcoming season. But are you perhaps doing things on the bike that could hurt your fitness gains?

1. Getting your clothes wrong

First, not carrying enough gear. If you’re used to wearing shorts and jerseys, it can be pretty easy to get your gear wrong and not wearing enough when the temperature starts to drop. If you’re not carrying enough gear, it can be difficult to get your temperature up enough for you to perform well in whatever effort you must put in. Not being warm enough can also increase the amount of time you need recover from training sessionseven if you spend a lot of time downstairs bike training zones.
